Brooklyn based all female hip-hop crew

Year in Review (2012)

4 Countries, over 30 cities, over 50 shows…2012 was an amazing year!

Our first gig of 2012 was the Matrix Imagination Event in New Orleans.  We had a blast on stage and off!

Next up, the crew headed to Miami to perform 3 sold out shows at the Adrienne Arsht Center and to teach workshops with local high school students and students at New World School of the Arts

To promote the show, Jenn, Nads and Adaku battled Burnie, The Miami Heat Mascot…We think we won!

After Miami, we headed to Austin, Tulsa and Las Vegas with Matrix

Here is a video we made in our amazing Las Vegas hotel suite!

and a photo of our “county girl” style… this year we learned we can do anything!

In March, we performed at the Trinity Hip Hop Dance Festival with Nomadic Wax

In April, Deca premiered 4 at Joyce SoHo

“On Friday evening the company returned to the Joyce SoHo with “4,” the first section of an evening-length work set to Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons.” In the piece — devoted to the stormy “Summer” section — Megan Alfonso and Adaku Utah share the stage, demonstrating how movement can switch from crisp to balmy at a moment’s notice. The tools of hip-hop, which cause a body to break down and build back up again, give the familiar music a playful edge, even though the dancers aren’t playing around.”–Gia Kourlas, The New York Times

“A dance like Keith Haring come to life.”– Andrew Boynton, The New Yorker

Press Quotes

"The pioneering all female hip-hop group, a fearless coalition of b-girls"
The New Yorker

“Jennifer Weber’s Brooklyn-based Decadancetheatre got things off to a promising start. In The Cage, a world premiere, the four company members balanced their cohesion as a tightly knit unit against individual strengths.”
--Donald Huerta
The London Times

"Ms. Weber is onto something…a performance that is intensely emotional and casually streetwise”
—Jennifer Dunning
The New York Times

“Her leading dancers bring—dare I say?—the feminine mystique to hip-hop. They suspend the expected fierce staccato moves in a matrix of lush fluency and add a dimension of alluring mystery to the form's conventional tough, streetwise attitude.”
--Tobi Tobias,
The Village Voice

“Their unusual blend of hip hop and ballet was so carefully choreographed, it would makes the likes of J-Lo weep”
—Ellie Hargreaves,
The Westmorland Gazette (UK)
